James V. Burns, ChFC, Registered Principal
James V. Burns, ChFC, (Jim Burns) is the founder and Managing Partner of Burns Financial Advisors, LLC. Jim is a graduate of the University of Southern California Business School and has his professional designation of Chartered Financial Consultant from the American College of Bryn Mawn, Pennsylvania. Jim first received his Life and Health Insurance License in 1979, and operated as Burns Insurance Service, for a number of years along with his wife, Dee who is also a licensed insurance agent. They provided life, disability and health insurance benefits to small business owners.
In 1997, Jim received his first securities license after affiliating himself with New England Financial, doing insurance and investment planning for small businesses. His first year there, Jim was awarded, "Rookie of the Year," and earned a spot in New England Financial's coveted Leader's Association. It was also while at New England Financial that Jim began his studies in financial planning at the American College.
As he continued with New England Financial, Jim was promoted to manager and placed in charge of hiring and training new planners. He was then recruited by CUNA Mutual Group in 2000, and given the responsibility of opening and operating a branch at the Navy Federal Credit Union in Groton, CT, and later assigned to the Navy Federal in Newport, RI. There, he received numerous awards for production and outstanding member service as he served as financial advisor to mostly military personnel and government employees.
By 2001, Jim had completed his work towards his Stock Broker's License and Investment Advisor Registration. Then, in 2003, completed his studies at the American College, earning his Chartered Financial Consultant's (ChFC) designation. Jim resigned from CUNA Mutual Group in the Summer of 2004, to found Burns Financial Advisors, LLC.
